The Body Respect Petition
Whereas the human
body is essential to human life and as such should be held in the
highest regard,
Whereas recognition
of the inherent dignity and worth of all parts of
the human being is foundational to building healthy self-esteem and confidence,
Whereas disregard and
contempt for the human body has defiled the
conscience of mankind by equating mere nudity with indecency or offense
assaulting our value as humans,
Whereas equating mere nudity
with indecency and obscenity results in body shame and self alienation,
Whereas societies
where nudity is accepted have lower rates for sexual
perversions, abuse, and teen pregnancy promoting social progress,
Whereas a common
understanding of respect and acceptance for the nude
human body is of the greatest importance for the full realization human
dignity,
I therefore petition
for the full repeal of any laws that equate mere
nudity with public indecency. I support and petition for living
in a
society where simple nudity is a respected and protected legal human right.
Petitions
are extremely successful tools in changing public opinion
and laws. The key
to their success of course is numbers. Polls
have shown 80% of the US population supports
the rights of people to be nude in appropriate places! Most
people therefore should support this petition.
As
signatures are collected and the numbers grow they can be used to show
that there is
strong
support for full, healthy body acceptance and appropriate
nudity.
The longer the list of
signers grows, the faster and more it will grow.
The
goal is to
have so many people signing this petition that you, your
children,
and your children's children can openly and legally live free from body
shame/alienation
and be comfortable with nudity most anywhere.
Take
a stand!
When simple nudity
is taboo or labeled indecent or obscene it is an attack on human
identity,
acceptance, and worth that results in shame and self alienation. This causes
millions
of people to struggle with feelings of insecurity, disconnectedness,
feeling
that there is something wrong with them, instead of feeling security,
confidence,
acceptance, and respect.
The human body is
fundamental and
essential
to us all, no one should be ashamed of, or alienated from it. Not one
single
person. Take a stand and be counted in support of body
acceptance
by signing the Body Respect
Petition.
The Body Respect
Petition
does not ask you to go
nude anywhere
that you are uncomfortable
doing so or that is inappropriate, it simply asks you to affirm that
nudity is good, acceptable,
and decent, that the human body should be treated with respect, and
that body shame/alienation is unhealthy,
harmful, and indecent.Promote
it
To get the maximum number of signatures the Body Respect
Petition
needs the maximum
amount of exposure, anyone who signs the Body Respect
Petition
can have fun helping to
promote it and opening up communication about body shame and nudity
simply
by telling others about it. Send e-mails telling people about The Body Respect
Petition with a link to this
page included. If
you have a web site
put a "Sign the Body Respect
Petition" button or
banner on it. Be creative, be bold, have fun and together
we
can gather enough support to live in a society where nudity is
commonplace
and body shame is a thing of the past.
Important
Notes:
1.To get
enough
signatures
showing there is real support
in for the acceptance of nudity each person who
agrees with the Body Respect
Petition needs to sign it, not
just one person for a
couple,
family, group, club, etc. Equally important is to sign it
only
once and only for yourself, to sign more than once or for others
dilutes
it's impact and credibility.
2. Please feel free to
add a
comment as to why you signed
it and feel it is important. You can also link your personal,
business,
organization, or club web pages to it. However, please keep the
comments
relevant to why you are signing the pledge, this is not a place to post
personal or business ads, etc. Links may be to non-offensive
business
or personal sites, but please keep the comments on topic.
Thank
You!
